Livingston Central did the little things right in last year’s district tournament which resulted in a 1-0 win over Trigg County in eight innings. The Cardinals used the same formula Wednesday and came up with the same result – a 2-1 win over the Wildcats at the Complex.
Cameron Dean doubled home Talon Cockrel with Livingston’s first run in the first inning and scored Cockrel on an infield single in the third for the Cardinals’ two runs.
Cameron Head kept the Wildcats in check on the mound, allowing just four hits. Trigg County’s aggressive approach at the plate kept the count from going deep and resulted in just three strikeouts. However, Head needed just 73 pitches to get the complete game win.
Trigg County scored their lone run in the fourth inning when Trevor Cortner singled and scored on the first of two doubles by Riley Stallons.
The Wildcats put the tying run on base in both the fifth and sixth innings but a caught stealing and fielder’s choice out at third base put and end to the threats.
Jake Terrell pitched well for the Wildcats despite picking up the loss. He scattered seven hits and struck out six while walking none.
Head struck out three and walked just one for Livingston.
Dean and Cockrel combined for five of Livingston Central’s seven hits.
Stallons had two of Trigg’s four hits.
Livingston Central (8-4) takes over first place in the Fifth District with a 3-0 record. They will play Trigg County again May 3 in Smithland.
Trigg County (9-6) drops to 3-1 in district play. The Wildcats will host Todd County Central Thursday.
