Sports. It is not about winning. It is not about losing. It’s about living. It’s about loving. The legacy of Amanda “Mandy” Gilbert lives on as part of a facelift of the Caldwell County Lady Tigers Softball facilities.
Mandy lost her life way too soon in a car accident in December of 2004. She was a true Tiger, proudly wearing #23 during high school, while her dad Todd Gilbert (also an athlete) cheered her on from the stands. Her little sister, Tenley Gilbert, was only 18 months old when the tragedy occurred. Oddly enough, she remembers so many things about Mandy, and she too wanted to become a great softball player like her sister.
Saturday, Todd and Tenley rehung a special memorial sign in Mandy’s honor on the girls’ softball building at Ratliff Park on Kentucky 139 (Cadiz Road) in Princeton. The sign that hung there for more than a decade now hangs in the home of Todd, Tatum, and Tenley Gilbert. She will always be remembered.
Tenley wore Mandy’s visor at the Caldwell vs. Christian County game this past weekend. She may have had on a #12 Christian County uniform, but her heart was in Princeton to honor her sister, gone way too soon.
