The Lyon County Lady Lyons opened their day Saturday in the Trigg County Lady Cat Invitational in impressive fashion. The Lady Lyons exploded for 16 runs in the bottom of the 3rd winning to pick up a three inning win over the Hopkinville Lady Tigers 16-1.
Hopkinsville took the early lead in the game with a run in the top of the 1st inning. After singles by Shelby Harbour and Lauren Hodge, Lyon County committed an error allowing Hodge to score and the Lady Tigers to take a 1-0 lead. The score stayed that way until the bottom of the 3rd inning, when Lyon County broke loose in a big way.
After three one out walks to load the bases, Calista Collins cleared the bases with a double to put Lyon County up 3-1. The next five batters for Lyon County reached base in the form of two walks, two errors and a hit batter. The inning and the game came to an end when Rachel Coursey hit an RBI single with two outs to make it 16-1.
Calista Collins was 2-3 with 4 RBIs for Lyon County. Rachel Coursey was 2-2 with 2 RBIs.
Lauren Hodge was 2-2 for Hopkinsville.
Allye Culp pitched all three innings for Hopkinsville, giving up 1 run on three hits, and striking out six.
