University Heights Academy junior Kyky Tandy and Christian County senior Detorrion Ware were both named to the Louisville Courier Journal All-State Basketball Team Friday. Tandy was named to the First Team, while Ware was named to the Second Team.
Tandy, a junior at University Heights Academy, was named to the First Team after averaging 30.5 points a game and helping lead the Blazers to their first Sweet 16 appearance in a decade. The 6-2 guard shot 61-percent from the field and 47-percent from 3-point range. He scored 31 points at Rupp Arena in UHA’s opening round loss to Campbell County.
Florida, Oklahoma, Western Kentucky, New Mexico State, and Tennessee offered Tandy early with Kentucky starting to show interest midway through the season, even prompting Coach John Calipari to watch Tandy in the Second Region title game. Cincinnati, Iowa State, and Kansas joined in with offers late in the season also.
Ware, a senior at Christian County, was named Second Team All-State after averaging 31.9 points and 9.1 rebounds. He shot 52-percent from the field and 36-percent from 3-point range and leaves Christian County as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,314 points.
SEMO and St. Louis are among the schools that have shown an interest in Ware.
Hopkinsville senior Jalen Johnson was the only Second Region player named All-State Honorable Mention in voting conducted by coaches statewide.
