After some good news Monday morning, the Big Blue Nation was hit with some unexpected news Monday afternoon. In a tweet, sophomore big man Sacha Killeya-Jones announced that he would be leaving UK, not for the NBA, but for a chance to play college basketball elsewhere.
In the tweet. Killeya-Jones stated “the past two years at Kentucky have been an amazing journey.” He further went on that “after much deliberation with my family, I have decided that it is in my best interest to ask for my release and explore other opportunities at this time.
Killeya-Jones was a 2016 McDonald’s All-American, but never seemed to eleavate to elite status at Kentucky. In his freshman season, he did not see any action after January 21. During his sophomore season, Killeya-Jones seemed to make progress, and had been viewed as a player who could provide valuable experience for the 2018-2019 season.
Jones becomes the third player to leave after the 2017-2018 season, joining Kevin Knox, who declared for the NBA Draft, and Tai Wynard, who is also seeking to transfer.
