The 15th staging of Murray State women’s golf spring home tournament was cut short when Saturday’s final round of the Jan Weaver Invitational was cancelled after snow and cold descended on Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray. With no final 18 holes to play, the scores from Friday’s 36 holes was the final as the Central Arkansas Bears became the champion and the Racers placed second in the field of 14 teams. In 10 events from last fall to this spring, the Racers have won twice and posted five second-place finishes, including three-straight.

The Racers’ now have some time to prepare to go for back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference championship wins when the league event is played (April 16-18) in Muscle Shoals, Alabama at The Shoals Golf Club. The OVC field will play the Schoolmaster course for the first time after having played the Fighting Joe course several times.

In Friday’s 36 holes that ended up deciding the Weaver Invitational title, the Racers were tied with the Bears after the morning round in which they posted a score of 293, but fell off the pace when UCA posted a 291 in the afternoon to MSU’s 304. MSU placed second on rounds of 293-304=597 and trailed winner Central Arkansas who had scores of 293-291=584.

MSU’s Moa Folke and Linette Holmslykke earned All-Tournament honors with a second and fifth place finish. Folke had a tournament record 5-under-par 67 in the first round and ended with a score line of 67-78=145, two shots off UCA’s Emma Svensson who carded scores of 73-70=143. Linette Holmslykke carded scores of 74-74=148.
