Christian County split their Thursday games on their Alabama swing with the long ball factoring into both games. Tyler Shemwell homered for the second consecutive game as part of a two-hit day in the Lady Colonels’ 8-2 win over Madison County.

Christian County scored in every inning but two, banging out 13 hits in the contest. Halle Hendricks had three hits and three RBIs, while Shemwell, Emmy Blane, Reni Shemwell, and Regan Hancock each had two hits. Tenley Gilbert and Lexie O’Daniel each had doubles for the Lady Colonels.

Hannah Sumner picked up the pitching, allowing four hits and one earned run in four innings of work. Regan Hancock pitched three scoreless innings for the save.

In the second game of the day, Christian County lost to Sparkman 10-3. Brooke Pooler hit a two-run homer in the third inning to help Sparkman build a 6-2 lead. Pooler finished with two hits and three RBIs for Sparkman, last year’s state runner-up and the top-ranked team this year in Alabama Class 7A. Western Kentucky signee Taylor Davis had a hit and RBI.

Christian County managed just three hits in the game. They scored twice in the first inning on back-to-back doubles by Tyler Shemwell and Hope Jones. Reni Shemwell tripled in Jones, who walked, in the third.

Sparkman pitcher Cassidy Duskin got the win, retiring 12 of the last 13 batters she faced.
