Muhlenberg County rallied with three runs in the seventh inning to beat Hopkinsville 4-3 and hand the Tigers their first loss of the season.

After the Mustangs loaded the bases with two singles and a walk in the seventh, Tiger pitcher Zach Caudill got a popup to short and a fielder’s choice that scored one run to make it 3-2.

A two-base error plated the tying and go-ahead run for Muhlenberg County, who only had five hits in the game.
Robert Justus walked to lead off the seventh for Hopkinsville but was erased on a double play.

Hoptown got two runs in the first on a Caleb Bapp RBI single and Dalton Bearns sacrifice fly.

After Muhlenberg County got a run back in the fifth on a sac fly of their own, Hoptown added an insurance run in the sixth on a second sac fly by Bearns, who signed to play college baseball with the University of the Cumberlands earlier in the day.

Bapp had two of Hoptown’s three hits, while Layne Jorgensen added the other.

Caudill was the tough-luck loser for Hoptown, giving up one earned run in two innings in relief of Jorgensen, who pitched the first five and struck out seven while allowing just two hits.

Muhlenberg County improved to 3-0 with the win.

Hopkinsville fell to 2-1 on the season, and they are scheduled to play Christian County on Thursday and Friday before leaving for the Emerald Coast for four games in Fort Walton Beach next week.
