Riley Stallons’ second grand slam in as many games backed a strong pitching performance by Ashton Plymale to help Trigg County beat Murray 6-0 Tuesday.
The senior left-hander allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out a career-high 12 batters in getting the complete game win.
Murray, who scored 21 runs in a Saturday win over Hickman County, only managed to get three balls out of the infield all game.
Trigg got a run in the first when Trevor Cortner led off the game with an infield single, stole second, and scored on a Savion Radford single.
The Wildcats broke the game open in the fifth when Plymale doubled, Nick Ahart walked, and Cortner reached on an infield single. Riley Stallons launched a grand slam to the short porch in right field – his second bases loaded homer in as many games.
Trigg added a run in the sixth when Radford got his third single of the game and scored on a Tyler Ladd double.
One game after their pitching staff issued seven walks and made three errors in a loss to Caldwell County, the Wildcats had just one of each in the win.
The victory was Trigg’s first at Murray (1-3) in nine years.
Trigg County (1-1) is scheduled to play a Fifth District contest Thursday at Livingston Central.
