Christian County opened their softball season with a 27-0 thumping of University Heights Academy Wednesday at Colonel Field. The 27 runs scored is the most by the Lady Colonels in nearly two decades.

Returning every starter from last year’s 31-8 team, the Lady Colonels wasted no time in getting a quick start to the season, sending 15 batters to the plate in the first inning and plating 12 runs.

Christian County added 12 more runs in the second inning forcing the mercy rule to kick in after UHA batted in the third inning.

Emmy Blane doubled and later added a grand slam in the second inning as part of an eight RBI afternoon. Lexie O’Daniel added a pair of doubles and had two RBIs.

Hope Jones and Regan Hancock each had two hits, with Hancock driving in two runs with a double. The Lady Colonels had 13 hits on the afternoon, with nine different players collecting hits.

UHA was limited to two hits on the day, with Rachael Snyder and Bailey Vier collecting singles.

Hannah Sumner got the pitching win for Christian County, allowing no hits in two innings and striking out two.

Christian County (1-0) is scheduled to play at Hopkinsville Thursday, although Coach Johnny Blane said the game could be moved to Christian County if Hoptown’s field is not playable.

University Heights (0-1) will host Dawson Springs Monday.
