The Lyon County softball team enters the 2018 season on the heels of back-to-back 5th District championships, after posting a 22-12 record in 2017. The Lady Lyons’ season came to an end with a 10-0 loss to Webster County in the first round of the 2nd Region tournament.
Senior OF/P Sophie Bingham will anchor a youthful Lady Lyons’ roster that includes four middle schoolers, seven freshmen, and two sophomores. Five starters return, with Bingham joined by freshman C/IF Sydney Melton, freshman C/IF Calista Collins, freshman OF/P Kaelyn Conger, and sophomore OF/P Allye Culp. First-year coach Jason Collins is also expecting big contributions from freshman OF/P Tori Schenk, freshman OF/UTIL Rachel Coursey, 8th grade OF/UTIL Jaiden Capello, and freshmen IF/OF Kerstin and Kyra Craft.
The Lady Lyons begin regular-season play on Monday when they welcome Paducah Tilghman to Eddyville, and will open district play on March 26 when they travel to Cadiz to face Trigg County. Lyon won all three meetings with the Lady Wildcats in 2017, including a 6-3 win in the first round of the 5th District tournament.
