The Hopkinsville baseball team beat Calloway County 9-8 in a scrimmage in Murray on Friday night. Both teams scored 3 runs in the opening frame, and 1 each in the second, before the Tigers scored 4 over the final two innings to complete the 9-8 win.
Sophomores Caleb Bapp and Layne Jorgensen led the Tiger attack with 2 hits and an RBI each, with Bapp doubling home a run with the game tied at 5 in the top of the seventh. Sophomore catcher Blake Sowell went 1-3 with 2 RBI. Junior RHP Robert Justus earned the win for the Tigers, allowing 2 hits and no runs over 3 innings, including 5 strikeouts and no walks.
The Tigers outhit the Lakers 8-7, and committed 3 errors to Calloway’s 4.
Hopkinsville opens regular-season play on March 19 when Webster County visits Tiger Field.
