Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team dominated from start to finish, winning every contested match en route to a 6-1 win over IUPUI, Saturday, at the Governors Indoor Tennis Center. Both teams were shorthanded coming into the match with the Govs (2-5) still missing Claudia Yanes Garcia and the Jaguars (3-7) being forced into a last-minute lineup change before the match due to an injury.

The Jaguars won No. 3 doubles due to forfeit, but the teams of Helena Kuppig/Ana Albertson (No. 2 doubles) and Lidia Yanes Garcia/Fabienne Schmidt (No. 1 doubles) easily won their matches to clinch the double point for the Govs.

IUPUI got another forfeit win at No. 6 singles to knot the match up at 1-1, but the Govs won the remaining five singles matches to earn a deserved win. The Govs went up 3-1 in the match due to wins from Lidia and Fabienne Schmidt, at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Lidia was the only Gov to win both singles matches over the weekend. Austin Peay won the match due to Helena Kuppig’s straight-set win at No. 3 singles. Kuppig has won the clinching point in both of Austin Peay’s two wins this year. Ana Albertson and Brittney Covington rounded out the day’s action with wins of their own at No. 4 and No. 5 singles.

The Govs hit the road in their next match, playing Kennesaw State next Sunday.
