Balanced scoring and a big third quarter run helped Logan County win the girls’ 13th District Tournament title with a 56-40 win over Todd County Central. The title was the fourth for the Lady Cougars in the last five years and denied the Lady Rebels their first championship since 2013.
Scoring was slow early as Logan County led 10-3 after one quarter and 18-11 at halftime. Todd County missed out on chances in the second quarter to chip away at the deficit and then watched Logan outscore them 23-10 in the third quarter
Logan County had four players score in double figures, and all four scored at least five points in the decisive third quarter.
The Lady Rebels outscored Logan by four points in the fourth quarter, but by that time the game was decided.
Sisters Paige (15) and Peyton (14) Vanzant led the Lady Cougar scoring, while Kennedy Nichols added 11 points.
Alexis O’Daniel scored 10 of her game-high 16 points in the fourth quarter. Makayla Artis added six points, and Amy Brumfield and Jasmine Mimms both scored five points.
Both Logan County (21-10) and Todd County Central will advance to next week’s Fourth Region Tournament at Diddle Arena in Bowling Green. Their first round opponent will be South Warren (29-3), Barren County (25-6), or Russell County (24-6).
