Austin Gibson wrestles. He has wrestled for 10 years, and he will be the first to tell you that wrestling has been a large part of his high school life. Austin’s wrestling career has seen him qualify for the state tournament in both middle school and high school. He won the Region I title earlier in the month with three consecutive pins in the meet.
“He’s gone from a 90-pound freshman to 113 pounds. Where he used to wish he could win, he now believes he can win and move on,” Christian County wrestling coach Robert Burnham said. “He has gone from following to leading, and his teammates listen to him. You can rely on him to do the right thing and go the right way.”
The state tournament did not go the way Austin wanted with a 2-2 record, but that doesn’t deter what he was able to accomplish on the mat. He said he would like to continue his wrestling career in college and study graphic design.
