The Girls 7th District tournament could well be the most competitive from top to bottom in the second region when it gets underway Monday night at the CAB at Caldwell County High School. The Hopkins Central Lady Storm would have to be listed as a slight favorite, but the team from Mortons Gap had better not take anything for granted thi week in Princeton.
Monday night’s first game, at 6:00pm, will find the top seeded Lady Storm taking on the Dawson Springs Lady Panthers. Central won the two regular season matchups by 17 and 29. However, the Lady Panthers have won six of their last eight games, including a win over Caldwell County. It will take a significant effort for the Lady Panthers to pull off the upset, but stranger things have happened in the postseason.
The second game Monday night has the potential to be a tight, competitive matchup, as the #2 seeded Madisonville Lady Maroons take on the #3 seeded Caldwell County Lady Tigers. The two teams split their regular season matchups, with the Lady Tigers winning by four in Princeton, and the Lady Maroons rolling by 18 on their home floor. Of concern for Caldwell County will be the absence of Peyton Young, who is sidelined with a foot injury. Although, the Lady Tigers closed out the regular season with a road win at Livingston Central.
The girls 7th District championship contest is set for Thursday night at 7:00pm.
