While the Christian County Colonels completed an unbeaten run through the Boys 8th District during the regular season, and enter the district tournament as the favorite to cut down the nets, it could be quite an interesting tournament this week. While Fort Campbell is technically the host school, the tournament is being played this week at Christian County High School.
The boys tournament gets underway Monday night at 7:30, when the top seeded Christian County Colonels take on the #4 seed Fort Campbell Falcons. While the Falcons have won three of their last four games, they will be massive underdogs against the high powered Colonels. In the two teams contests this season, the Falcons lost 86-44 at Christian County, and then 73-32 on their home court.
Tuesday night at 7:30 brings the semifinal matchup between UHA and Hopkinsville. This one has big time battle written all over it. The #2 seeded Blazers won at home 88-81 early in the season, and then won again late in the season 78-68 at Tiger Gym. Still though, it is a Hopkinsville team that dealt with injuries and suspension early in the year, and may just now be getting their legs under them. The Tigers come into the tournament with back to back wins over 3rd Region contender Owensboro and 1st Region contender McCracken County.
On the other side, UHA has won five of their last six, the only loss coming to the top seeded Christian County Colonels. Included among the wins are Bowling Green, Hopkinsville. Murray, Henderson County, and Webster County.
The championship game is set for Thursday night at 8:00pm.
