It looked for a while Thursday night like it might be the first team to hit 20 points would win the game in Elkton. While both team struggled on the offensive end, the Todd County Central Lady Rebels defense generated enough offense on its part to get past the Caldwell County Lady Tigers 38-29.
Neither team could get much accomplished in the first quarter. In fact, the first point of the game would not come until there was 3:45 left in the 1st quarter when Todd County’s Alexis O’Daniel hit a three pointer to break the ice. Caldwell County finally got on the board with 1:07 to go in the quarter on a free throw by Bella McConnell. The Lady Tigers got their first field goal with 10 seconds left to tie the game at 3-3 after one.
The two teams’ offensive woes continued in the second quarter, with the first points not scored until the quarter was two minutes old. The Lady Rebels would get a pair of field goals from Jasmine Mimms during the quarter, including one with 21 seconds left to give Todd County Central a 10-8 lead going into the break.
In the third quarter, Tatyana Peterson began to heat up for Todd County, while the Lady Tigers offense continued to struggle to find any kind of flow. The Lady Rebels opened the quarter on a 6-2 spurt to take a 16-10 lead. Paige Rager hit a 3-pointer with 28 seconds left in the quarter to give Todd Central their biggest lead of the night at 21-14 when the quarter came to an end.
With Peterson continuing to make her way into the lane and scoring, the Lady Rebels opened the 4th quarter outscoring the Lady Tigers 11-7 to take a double digit lead at 32-21. Caldwell County would get no closer than 9 points for the rest of the game.
Tatyana Peterson led the way for the Lady Rebels with 12 points, all coming in the second half. Jasmine Mimms added 10. Lucy Goffinet was the leading scorer for Caldwell County with 8 points, while Bella McConnell added 6.
The win, which was Todd County Central’s 5th in a row, improved the Lady Rebels to 13-12, while Caldwell County dropped to 13-12.
