Our final rankings of the season show what we thought would be the case at the beginning of the season, that the 8th District is home to three teams that have a shot at the trip to Rupp Arena. The question is can anyone else crash the party.
1. Christian County (18-6) – An 8 game winning streak with wins over their biggest threats in the region. The Colonels are the team to beat during the post season.
2. UHA (17-7) – The Blazers have won 4 of their last 6 games. The only two losses coming to Christian County.
3. Hopkinsville (12-13) – The Tigers played Christian County down to the wire, and then knocked off Owensboro, the 3rd Region’s top team. Anybody “really” want to play this team right now.
4. Madisonville (18-9) – All season long this has been the darkhorse team in the region. A win at Henderson County does nothing to change that.
5. Henderson County (13-12) – The Colonels looking like possibly the best of the second tier. But back to back losses to Madisonville and UHA may indicate they are just outside of the big boys.
6. Webster County (16-9) – The Trojans avenged a loss to Livingston Central. Can they find the consistency they had early in the season.
7. Livingston Central (17-12) – The Cardinals’ last three losses have been by 3, 5, and 5. Those losses to Marshall County, Henderson County, and Webster County. This still looks like a team that is gonna send someone packing.
8. Caldwell County (13-12) – The Tigers have won their last four games, and are starting to get things back together again after a brief slump. Their game against Central in the district could be a dandy.
9. Union County (13-14) – The Braves had been on a four game winning streak but then got taken to the woodshed on their homecourt Tuesday night by Caldwell County.
10. Hopkins Central (14-12) – The Storm have lost four of their last six. Not a trend you like to see with the district tournament starting next week.
11. Trigg County (11-12) – A five game losing streak is not what you like to have going as you enter the final game of the regular season.
12. Lyon County (7-16) – The Lyons have been competitive most of the season. They need some shots to fall in key moments if they want to make it past the district tournament.
13. Fort Campbell (4-18) – The Falcons have a shot at winning their final two games of the regular season. But then comes a district matchup with Christian County. Any questions?
14. Dawson Springs (9-18) – The Panthers just don’t have a win that makes you think they have any kind of chance against Madisonville in the 7th District tournament.
15. Crittenden County (5-18) – The Rockets have lost 9 of their last 10 games. Been a long tough season in Marion.
