Lyons Drop Region Battle With Hopkins Central

A chance to get a bit of a statement win late in the season just got away from the Lyon Couny Lyons Tuesday night. The Lyons battled Hopkins Central from the opening tip, but came up just short, falling to the Storm 68-60 Tuesday night in Eddyville.

Behind hot outside shooting, Hopkins Central took a 22-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Storm connected on five three point shots during the opening quarter. Lyon County tried to chip away at the Storm lead during the second quarter and actually outscored Hopkins Central 16-14 to trim the lead to 36-31 at the half.

The Lyons kept battling during the 3rd quarter, and behind the play of Max Wadlington, who scored nine points in the quarter, cut the Hopkins Central lead to 53-50 headed into the final quarter.

However, the Hopkins Central defense was able to limit Lyon County to 10 points in the 4th quarter and hold on for the eight point win.

Max Wadlington had a big night for Lyon County with 26 points. Travis Yancy added 13 points, while Gabe Board had 12. For Hopkins Central, Tylan Mann led the way with 17 points. Key Hobgood added 16.

The loss drops the Lyons to 6-15 on the season, while Hopkins Central improves to 13-9.
