
Greg Bridges is one of the fastest athletes to come through the Trigg County school system. His combination of speed and strength allowed him to excel in both football and track and field.
Greg joins Al Baker, Brandon Bridges, and Kelvin Grubbs as the only running backs in Trigg County history to have three 1,000-yard seasons.
As a sophomore, Greg rushed for 1,016 yards and followed that up with 1,404 rushing yards as a junior despite missing two games with injury.
In his senior season, Greg helped lead the Wildcats to the Class 1A state title game where they fell to Pikeville. In Trigg County’s fourth game of the season, Greg carried the football a school-record 41 times for 176 yards and kicked the winning extra point on a sprained ankle as the Wildcats beat their rival Caldwell County 13-12 in double-overtime.
For the season, Greg rushed for 2,058 yards and 29 touchdowns – both marks are second-most in school history. He finished with 4,694 yards – second only to Al Baker in school history. His 782 rushing attempts are the most in school history and his 53 career touchdowns rank second.
Greg was named All-WKC three seasons and All-State his senior season.
On the track, Greg flourished in a time when Trigg County was bumped to Class 2A. He completed a first-place sweep in the 100 and 200 meters at the 1987 state meet. In his sophomore season, Bridges finished second in the 200 meters in a time of 22.15 seconds which still stands as a school record.
Greg also won three state championships in powerlifting and holds the state record for his weight class.
After graduating high school, Greg played football at Campbellsville where he was named All-Conference at running back his junior and senior seasons where he was the second-leading rusher on the Tiger squad. He graduated with a major in sociology with a minor in business.
Greg stayed in Campbellsville where he was an assistant coach at CU for five seasons and was an assistant football and track coach at Paducah Tilghman from 2000-08.
Greg is a teacher’s assistant at Morgan Elementary School in Paducah, where he lives with his wife Rainey. Greg’s daughter LaEsha Whittle will graduate from Campbellsville in the spring.
