The Lyon County Lady Lyons hit the UHA Lady Blazers with an early run Saturday afternoon and never looked back on their way to a 66-44 win. The game was a part of the Akridge Ace Hardware Shootout at Lyon County High School.
The Lady Lyons were leading 4-2 about halfway through the first quarter when they went on a 13-0 run. The run was keyed by the outside shooting of Sophie Bingham, who connected on three straight 3-point shots. Lyon County led 17-4 at the end of the period.
UHA battled to stay in the game during the 2nd quarter, but could get no closer than 10 points at 18-8. Lyon County would take a 25-14 lead into the locker room at the break.
Behind 5 straight points from Anshanique Leavell, the Lady Blazers got within 8 points at 30-22 early in the 3rd quarter. Lyon County then ripped off a 13-2 run to effectively put the game away. The Lady Lyons would lead 49-30 at the end of the quarter.
Lyon County would lead by as many as 24 points in the final quarter before settling for the 22 point win.
Big games for both Hannah Holloman and Allison Murphy led the way for Lyon County. Murphy had 22 points and 16 rebounds, while Holloman had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Sophie Bingham also reached double figures with 15-points, including four 3-pointers. She was recognized with the MVP award for the game.
Lily Hendricks had a huge afternoon for the Lady Blazers, coming up with 23 points. Anshanique Leavell added 15 on the afternoon.
Lyon County improves to 16-6, while UHA drops to 8-13.
