While their completion of a suspended game could affect next week’s rankings, for now the Christian County Colonels have climbed back into the top spot in the YSE 2nd Region Boys Basketball Rankings. The Colonels into an ever so slight lead over the UHA Blazers.
1. Christian County (12-6) – The Colonels inch their way back into the top spot after an impressive win over Hopkinsville, though it was on the Colonels home court. The loss against Castle gives cause, but Castle is not in the 2nd Region.
2. UHA (13-5) – The Blazers only game over the past week was against Lexington Christian, who was able in some ways to impose their physical will against the Blazers. UHA is barely, and I mean barely out of the top spot, which could change following the completion of the game with the Colonels.
3. Madisonville (15-7) – It was a close decision whether Madisonville remained at #3 or Hoptown climbed into the slot. Maroons lost to a solid O-Cath team, and got a big win over Hopkins Central. For now, the Maroons hang on at #3, barely.
4. Hopkinsville (10-11) – Everyone is back and playing for Hoptown. The question now is how long will it take them to hit their stride this late in the season. The Tigers have won 6 of their last 8 and have a big one with Henderson coming up.
5. Henderson County (10-9) – Can someone please explain this Henderson County team to me. They struggle to beat Webster and Union, and lost at home to Ohio County. We will find out a bunch coming up, as they play Hoptown, Christian, and Livingston.
6. Livingston County (16-10) – The Cardinals appear to be getting back on track. Their only loss over the past week was an overtime loss at Marshall County. In wake of recent events, could you even expect the Cardinals to pull that one out.
7. Webster County (13-8) – A tough loss to Henderson and a big win over Hardin County, Illinois. Just can’t put them ahead of Livingston right now, since the Cardinals went into Dixon and beat the Trojans on their home floor.
8. Hopkins Central (12-8) – The Storm have won 7 of their last 9. Now, some of that is schedule, but still, Central looked impressive Tuesday night going into Princeton and handling Caldwell County on its home floor.
9. Caldwell County (9-11) – The Tigers have hit a late January slide. They have lost three of their last four games, and looked way out of kilter in the 4th quarter against district rival Hopkins Central, which is bad news, since it appears the two will meet again in the district tourney opener.
10. Union County (9-13) – Union gets a win over Trigg, loses another tough battle to Henderson, but gets rolled by Livingston Central. Another team that will drive you crazy trying to figure them out.
11. Trigg County (11-8) – A win over Fulton City just does not outweigh losses to Lyon and Union. The 5th District tourney is looking like a three team race between the Wildcats, the Lyons, and the Cardinals.
12. Lyon County (5-13) – The Lyons almost climbed a spot above Trigg County following Tuesday night’s win. Would like to see a little more consistency from a team that could very well win the 5th District tourney.
13. Crittenden County (5-13) – Rockets beat a struggling Fort Campbell team, and then take in the in the grille from Livingston Central Tuesday night. Still, would it surprise you if they won a game in the wide open 5th District tournament.
14. Dawons Springs (6-14) – The Panthers picked up their second win of the season over Fort Campbel, which is enough to keep them out of the bottom slot in the region.
15. Fort Campbell (3-14) – Since the calendar rolled over into 2018, it has not gone well for the Falcons. Fort Campbell is just 1-10 for the year.
