It was Homecoming Night at Lyon County High School Friday, and the Lyons decided to celebrate in a big way. Behind a super effort from senior Max Wadlington, Lyon County got off to a quick start and never looked back in an 83-63 over Dawson Springs.
While it was Wadlington who had the big night it was 8th grader Jackson Shoulders got the Lyons off to a “roaring” start. Shoulders hit for 12 points in the opening quarter, including two 3-pointers, as the Lyons came flying out of the gate to take a 24-12 lead at the end of the quarter. Wadlington also played a big role early, coming up with 9 points in the quarter.
The Panthers took advantage of foul issues for the Lyons to try and hang around during the 2nd quarter. Dawson Springs went to the line a total of eleven times in the quarter, connecting on seven of their attempts. Still the Lyons did enough to actually extend the lead to 43-27 at the break.
Wadlington then took control for the Lyons in the second half, scoring 13 points in the 3rd quarter and 10 more in the 4th quarter. Dawson Springs played almost even with the Lyons in the second half, but by that time, the deficit was too large to find their way back. Lyon County outscored the Panthers in the 3rd quarter 21-17 to push the lead on out to 20 points at 64-44. The two teams then played dead even over the final 8 minutes.
Max Wadlington led the way for Lyon County with 33 points. Jackson Shoulders added 19 points, while Gabe Board had 17. For Dawson Springs, Justin Putman was the leading scorer with 19 points, while Kevin Brooks added 12, and Braxton Cotton had 10.
Lyon County ends a three game losing streak with the win, and improves their record to 4-13. Dawson Springs falls to 5-13.
