Heritage Christian Academy overcame some off the court issues but still fell to top-ranked Oak Ridge Christian 65-55 Friday in Morgantown.
HCA announced Friday that Daryl Hallmark had resigned as head coach after six seasons. No reason was given by school officials for the resignation.
Matt McGowan, coach of the top-ranked Lady Warriors, was named as Hallmark’s replacement.
“It’s been a tough few days for them, but they went out and competed. They played hard,” McGowan said.
Oak Ridge jumped out to a 21-14 lead after one quarter and led 30-22 at halftime. Oak Ridge kept their lead in double digits for most of the second half, although HCA managed to cut the lead to six points in the fourth quarter. HCA was helped by 14-of-29 shooting at the free throw line by Oak Ridge.
Gavin Fowler led HCA with 15 points, while Dalton Folz added 10, and Kam Cunningham scored nine.
Heritage Christian dropped to 9-11 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
Oak Ridge upped their conference mark to 7-0, including a perfect 3-0 record in the region. Oak Ridge beat HCA 75-66 last month.
HCA will travel to Christian Community (TN) Saturday.
