As teams get back into the swing of things, some teams are starting to make their move – up or down – in this week’s YourSportsEdge.com’s Second Region girls’ basketball rankings.
Christian County (14-4) – The Lady Colonels have not played in over two weeks due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances. They have three district games in the next two weeks, including two with No. 4 Hopkinsville. It will be interesting to see how quickly the Lady Colonels can get back into shape.
Webster County (17-5) – The Lady Trojans are as close as they have been to passing Christian County in the rankings since before Christmas. Webster County has won six of their last seven and have another district matchup with No. 3 Henderson County Friday. Webster beat the Lady Colonels 62-35 on Jan. 9.
Henderson County (8-7) – Henderson County has won six of eight games with their only losses to No. 2 Webster County during that stretch. They get another shot at the Lady Trojans Friday.
Hopkinsville (14-6) – All six Hoptown losses have come by double digits, including a pair to No. 3 Henderson County. It will be interesting to watch if No. 1 Christian County makes it seven double digit losses Thursday night or if the Lady Tigers have a surprise for their cross-town rival.
Lyon County (12-6) – The Lady Lyons continue to use solid defense to move up the YSE rankings – making a four-spot jump this week. Despite the loss at the State All-A Classic, the Lady Lyons have won three of four.
Caldwell County (11-6) – The Lady Tigers are wildly inconsistent, as shown in a win over Calloway County on Dec. 29 and a loss to University Heights in the Second Region All-A Classic. Their next seven games come against Second Region opposition.
Hopkins County Central (10-9) – The Lady Storm hammered No. 14 Dawson Springs in their first game back from the winter weather interruption. They can improve their ranking with upcoming games against No. 6 Caldwell County and No. 9 Madisonville.
Livingston Central (12-10) – The Lady Cardinals sandwiched an All-A loss to No. 5 Lyon County between blowout wins over Fort Campbell and St. Mary. They will host No. 12 Union County Saturday.
Madisonville (4-11) – The Lady Maroons came back from the weather layoff with a 61-54 loss to six-win Owensboro. Madisonville has lost nine of 11 but can reverse that trend when they host No. 7 Hopkins County Central Friday.
University Heights (8-11) – The Lady Blazers continued their roller-coaster season with a loss to No. 5 Lyon County in the Second Region All-A Classic title game. They appeared to rebound Monday until blowing a second half lead to Todd County Central. UHA gets a return shot at Lyon County Feb. 3.
Crittenden County (9-9) – The Lady Rockets are stuck at No. 11 after helping Ohio County pick up only their fourth win of the season Tuesday. They could slip further if they lose Friday to No. 12 Union County.
Union County (5-14) – The Bravettes followed a win over No. 13 Trigg County with blowout losses to No. 3 Henderson County and Graves County. They have two upcoming games with Fifth District teams that can improve their ranking next week.
Trigg County (6-12) – Defense may win championships but no one ever won a game being held scoreless. Trigg County has lost five straight games and failed to reach 40 points in all five. They have a favorable schedule in the coming weeks but not favorable enough to move them into the top ten.
Dawson Springs (4-14) – The Lady Panthers have dropped five of six games with only a win over Christian Fellowship sprinkled in.
Fort Campbell (0-13) – The Lady Falcons may pick up their first wins of the season this week when they play winless Christian Fellowship on consecutive nights.
