
The Lyon County Lady Lyons are on the verge of making the trip to Richmond for the All A Classic State Tournament. Lyon County advanced after easily dispatching Livingston Central Saturday evening 52-33 at the CAB at Caldwell County High School.
The Lady Lyons took the lead early in game and never looked back. Lyon County’s defensive pressure caused Livingston problems all night long, and, as usual, the Lady Lyons gave a strong effort on the boards.
Lyon County came out of the gate with their defensive focus honed in sharply, especially as it pertained to containing Livingston’s Tabby Padon. The Lady Lyons held the Lady Cardinals to only two field goals in the first quarter, taking a 14-7 lead after one.
Behind a solid, across the board, team effort, the Lady Lyons kept the defensive pressure on Livingston Central. And, the shots began to fall in the second quarter for Lyon County. The Lady Lyons outscored the Lady Cardinals 15-8 in the second quarter to extend the lead to 29-15 at the break.
Livingston Central came out after the break and tried to pull themselves back into the contest. However, the Lady Cardinals could make no headway during the 3rd quarter. Lyon County inched the lead out to 39-24 by the end of the quarter.
Lyon County was able to keep the Lady Cardinals from making any serious kind of push in the 4th quarter, outscoring Livingston 13-9 to seal the win. The Lyon County defense continued to be the dominating factor, as the Lady Lyons did not allow Livingston Central to score more than nine points in any quarter.
Lyon County got stellar performances from Allison Murphy and Calista Collins, both of whom had double-doubles on the evening. Murphy had 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Collins had 13 points and 14 rebounds. Hannah Holloman added 15 points for the Lady Lyons.
Livingston Central had only one player reach double figures, that being Tabby Padon, who scored 11 points and had ten rebounds.
The Lady Lyons improve to 11-5 on the season, and advance to Sunday’s 2nd Region Girls All A Classic championship game against UHA.
