A second quarter defensive stand was what the Todd County Central Lady Rebels needed Thursday night to pick up a big district win. The Lady Rebels limited Logan County to two field goals in the quarter and then rolled to a 60-44 win over the Lady Cougars in Elkton.
The night started off promising for Logan County. The Lady Cougars, behind the play of Sara Beth Hale jumped out to a 19-13 lead after the first quarter. Hall scored 8 points in the quarter, including two 3-pointers.
Then came the second quarter. The Todd County defense clamped down on Hale and the rest of her Logan County teammates. Halie Borders scored four points for Logan Count in the second quarter, and that was it for the Lady Cougars. Meanwhile, the Lady Rebels, behind a balanced effort, outscored Logan County 17-4 in the quarter to take a 30-23 lead at the break.
The two teams locked down on each other defensively in the third quarter. The Lady Rebels did just enough to extend their lead to 40-32 at the end of the quarter.
As Logan County tried to battle back in the final quarter, the Lady Rebels made their free throws and enough field goals to pull on out to the final sixteen point margin.
Todd County was led by Alexis O’Daniel with 14 points. Tatyana Peterson added 11, while Amy Brumfield also reached double figures with 10. Kennedy Nichols was the only player to reach double figures for Logan County with 13 points.
The win improves Todd County Central’s record to 4-9, while Logan County drops to 10-7.
