Coming off a “woodshed” game against Webster County, the Caldwell County Lady Tigers got the response they needed in a 7th District matchup against Madisonville. The Lady Tigers rallied after being behind at the half to pull out an exciting 58-54 win over the Lady Maroons at the CAB.
Behind the play of Courtney Peyton and Camryn LaGrange, the Lady Maroons started quickly, taking a 20-15 lead after the first quarter. The duo combined for 17 of Madisonville’s 20 points in the quarter. Bella McConnell kept the Lady Tigers in the game early, scoring 11 points in the first quarter.
Both teams struggled a bit offensively during the 2nd quarter. Caldwell County connected on only three field goals in the quarter, while Madisonville connected on four. Still the Lady Tigers were able to trim Madisonville’s lead to 29-25 at the half.
Caldwell County made its move to the front during the 3rd quarter. While the Lady Tiger defense limited Madisonville to single digit points for the 2nd consecutive quarter, the Caldwell County offense got back on track. The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Maroons 17-8 to take a 42-37 lead going into the final quarter.
The game was a battle then down to the wire Courtney Peyton led Madisonville’s rally attempt, scoring 9 points in the final quarter. However, Caldwell County was able to hold on and get the 4 points win. Jacey Jaggers was huge for the Lady Tigers in the final quarter, scoring 8 points, including two 3-pointers.
The Lady Tigers were led on the night by Jaggers with 16 points. Bella McConnell had 14, while Peyton Young added 11. Courtney Peyton paced Madisonville with 19 points, with Camryn LaGrange adding 18.
The win improves Caldwell County’s record to 10-5, while Madisonville falls to 4-10.
