The Caldwell County girls’ basketball team fell behind early and never recovered on Saturday, losing 58-27 to the Webster County Lady Trojans at the 6th/7th District Challenge. The Lady Tigers drop to 9-5, while the Lady Trojans are 15-4 and the winners of four straight.
The Lady Tigers were only trailing 21-16 after the first quarter, but baskets became hard to find for the remainder of the game. They only managed 3 points in the second quarter, and trailed 35-19 at the halftime break. Freshman guard Jacey Jaggers led the Lady Tigers with 6 points, followed by sophomore forward Bella McConnell and sophomore guard Jada Boyd with 4 each.
The Lady Tigers’ offensive struggles continued in the second half, only scoring 4 points in each of the final two quarters. With the game out of reach, both teams rested players down the stretch and it ended 58-27.
McConnell was the only Lady Tiger in double figures, scoring 12. Jaggers finished with 6, junior guard Peyton Young had 5, and Boyd ended up with 4.
Up next for Caldwell County is a visit from 7th District rival Madisonville-North Hopkins (4-9) on Tuesday. The Lady Maroons are 1-1 in district play, while Caldwell is 1-0.
