In a rematch of the season opener, Paducah Tilghman knocked off Christian County 87-84 Friday at Lyle Dunbar Gymnasium. The loss was the second in as many nights for the Colonels while Tilghman has now won five straight.

The game got off to a red-hot start, as both teams found the bucket with ease. After the end of the first quarter, the Colonels trailed Tilghman 26-20. As the second quarter played out, both teams would continue stay on fire, going back and forth throughout the whole quarter. With just seconds left in the half, Detorrion Ware was able to throw down a monster slam, steal the inbounding pass and goes back up with another exciting dunk. Although the Colonels were down 50-42 at halftime, the momentum was all on Christian County’s side.

Christian County came out the gates in the second half, playing lights out. They would quickly bring the deficit within a single point as a result of quick scores from seniors Ware and Cory Trice. It forced Tilghman to take an early timeout just three minutes in. The Colonels would eventually take the lead, with free throws from JaQuon Long and Ware. Both teams would go back and forth for the rest of the quarter, finishing with a tied score at 67-67.

Christian County continued to hold a lead until the four-minute mark when Tilghman would bounce back with consecutive scores to tie the game at 79. A late technical from JaQuon Long would give Paducah Tilghman four shots at the line, in which they made two, and the possession back with just less than two minutes left in the game and the score at 81-79.

The Colonels and Tilghman would go back to back with scores before Tilghman went up 85-81 with just about 30 seconds left to play. Ware would hit an unbalanced 3-point shot to bring the Colonels to within one point with seven seconds left. The Colonels would foul on the inbounds pass, and Tilghman would make both of their free throws boosting their lead to 87-84, which would end up being the final score in this season opener rematch.

Ware led the Colonels with 33 points, while Long had 15, Trice had 14, and Kolbe Langhi had 10.

Christian County (9-5) will host Fort Campbell Saturday night and play at University Heights Tuesday.
