The University Heights Academy girls’ basketball team rolled to a 58-32 road win over St. Mary on Saturday, improving to 5-8 for the year and snapping a two-game losing streak. The Lady Vikings fall to 3-13 and have lost 10 of their last 11.
The Lady Blazers got out to an early lead, outscoring the Lady Vikings 14-6 in the opening frame on the strength of 12 points from sophomore guard Lily Hendricks. UHA continued to stretch the lead in the second quarter, holding St. Mary to 5 points and taking a 34-11 lead into the halftime break. Hendricks had 16 more in the quarter, leading the Lady Blazers with 28 first-half points. The only other Lady Blazer to get on the first-half score sheet was junior guard Alex Juckett with 4 points.
The UHA offense stalled after halftime, as they only managed 4 points in the third, but St. Mary couldn’t take advantage and the lead was 38-18 going into the final quarter. The Lady Blazers were in control, led by Juckett’s 7 and junior forward Aisha Pantiere’s 4, on the way to the 58-32 win.
Hendricks’ huge night led the Lady Blazers, as she single-handedly outscored the Lady Vikings with 35 points. Juckett followed with 11, junior forward Anna Fitzpatrick had 6, Pantiere finished with 4, and sophomore guard Aniah Dailey had a bucket.
UHA will return to district play on Tuesday, hosting the 12-4 Christian County Lady Colonels.
