Sometimes you can make a quick start stand up for the course of a whole ballgame. The Caldwell County Lady Tigers did just that Thursday night to cruise past Dawson Springs in a 7th District matchup in Princeton. Caldwell County used a 13-0 first quarter run to defeat the Lady Panthers 50-36.
The Lady Tigers used three pointers from Jacey Jaggers and Peyton Young to take a 6-2 lead. Erin Orten scored for Dawson Springs to cut the lead to 6-4 with more than 5:00 to go in the first quarter, and then came the game deciding run. Caldwell County used good balance during the spurt, with five different players scoring for the Lady Tigers, as the score ballooned out to 19-4. The first quarter ended with Caldwell County holding a 19-7 lead.
Then, in the second quarter, it was like someone placed a lid on the basket for the Lady Tigers, as shots simply would not fall for much of the quarter. However, Dawson Springs could not take advantage of the cold shooting. The first half ended with Caldwell County in front 29-16.
The shooting woes continued in the second half for the Lady Tigers, and as the shots refused to fall, Caldwell County began to force things a little bit leading to an increase in turnovers. But, the Lady Tigers got three pointers from Jada Boyd and Peyton Young, and did enough defensively to extend the lead to 42-24 after three.
The Lady Panthers tried to rally, getting as close as ten points at 44-34, but could get no closer, as Caldwell County picked up the 14 point win.
Jacey Jaggers led Caldwell County with 13 points. Jada Boyd added 12, while Peyton Young chipped in with 10. The Lady Panthers were led by Erin Orten with 12 and Brooklyn Cotton with 11.
The win improves Caldwell County to 9-4 on the season, while Dawson Springs falls to 3-10.
