After trailing early in the game, the UHA Lady Blazers turned up the defensive heat and rallied past the Todd County Central Lady Rebels Saturday afternoon at Blazer Gym. The win will sent UHA into the new year on a two game winning streak.
Todd County was the team that came out of the gate fast however Saturday afternoon. The Lady Rebels limited UHA to just two field goals in the first quarter, and led the Lady Blazers 11-5.
UHA then decided to use more defensive pressure against the Lady Rebels, and it began to pay off in the form of steals and breakaway layups. UHA held Todd County Central to one field goal and two free throws in the quarter. Additionally, Alex Juckett and Lily Hendricks began to heat up from the outside. That combination led to the Lady Blazers taking a 23-15 lead into the locker room.
Todd County Central came out the 3rd quarter trying to make some headway. However, Alex Juckett tossed in eight of her 14 points in the third quarter, as the Lady Blazers were able to push the lead out to 37-28 going into the final quarter.
Early in the final quarter, the UHA defensive pressure really took its toll, as the Lady Blazers led by as many as 19 points in the quarter, before settling for the 12 point win. Anshanique Leavell spurred UHA in the 4th quarter, scoring 11 of her 14 points in the final period.
In addition to the 14 points each for Leavell and Juckett, Lily Hendricks added 12 points for the Lady Blazers.
For Todd County Central, Alexis O’Daniel led the way with 10 points. Michaela Robertson and Paige Rager added 8 points apiece.
UHA improves to 4-6 on the season, while the Lady Rebels fall to 2-8, losing for the 4th straight game.
