The Caldwell County Tigers delivered the knockout blow early and then cruised to a win Tuesday night over the Carlisle County Comets. The Tigers opened scoring the first 8 points of the game and never looked back on their way to a 71-58 win.
Jameer Riley and Derrin Boyd got the Tigers off to the hot start, combining to score the first 8 points of the game. Carlisle County scored four quick points to cut the lead in half at 8-4. The Tigers then closed the quarter on an 11-0 run to take a 19-4 lead after one.
Caldwell County got a three to open the second quarter to extend their run to 14-0, and the lead to 22-4. Carlisle County was able to get no closer than 14 points for the rest of the half, as Caldwell County took a 33-18 lead into the locker room.
In the third quarter, the Tigers continued to keep their lead at double figures. Caldwell County used an 8-2 run during the quarter to push the lead to 21, at 48-27. The Comets tried to battle back, and trimmed the lead to 50-34 at the end of the quarter.
Carlisle County could get no closer than 12 points during the final quarter, as the Tigers went wire to wire for the win.
Caldwell County was led by Derrin Boyd with 22 points. Jameer Riley added 20, while Jamarus Blaine had a solid night with 12 points.
Michael Thomason was the leading scorer for Carlisle County with 14 points.
Caldwell County improves to 3-4 and heads off to the BTN/WLBQ Christmas Classic Thursday at Butler County High School.
