Two days after knocking down 47-percent of their shots in a win over Lyon County, Trigg County found the bucket hard to find in a 71-44 loss at Madisonville. The Wildcats shot a season low 26-percent from the field, while the Maroons knocked down 45-percent of theirs.
Trigg was playing without leading scorer Devron Triplet (11.2 ppg.) and point guard Conner Barnes (2.8 ppg.), who were both out sick.
Madisonville (6-2) built a 14-7 lead after one quarter, but Cade Cunningham knocked down consecutive 3-pointers as part of a 10-0 run, and the Wildcats never got closer than 11 points the rest of the way.
Cunningham finished with 12 points – one of four Maroons who scored in double figures. Kenny White scored 16 points, and Ksuan Casey scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Trigg County was led by eighth grader Kendric Adams’ 14 points and eight rebounds. DeOvion Day added 10 points and 12 rebounds.
While the Wildcats struggled to hit shots, they did consistently get good looks at the basket and committed a season-low 13 turnovers.
Trigg County dropped to 3-3 on the season and have lost 17 of their 18 career games against the Maroons in Madisonville. Trigg County’s only win over Madisonville on their home court came in 1950. The Maroons lead the all-time series 33-11.
Trigg County has a week off until they return home to host the KME Classic Dec. 21-22 at Wildcat Gym. The Wildcats will host Houston County, TN in the Thursday opener.
