A fourth quarter rally came up just a little short for the Lyon County Lyons Friday night, as they fell at home to the Union County Braves 64-58. The Lyons battled back from a double digit halftime deficit, but just could not quite get past the Braves at the end.

The two teams went toe-to-toe during the first quarter, with the Braves taking a 17-11 lead at the end of the quarter. Union County began to distance themselves from the Lyons in the second quarter. The Braves’ defense again held Lyon County to 11 points, while the offense was able to generate 18, giving the Braves a 35-22 lead at the half.

Behind the play of Gabe Board, the Lyons worked to fight their way back into the contest during the second half. Board connected on two 3-pointers in the third quarter, as the Lyons outscored Union County 16-12 to cut the lead to 47-38 after three.

Board continued to lead the Lyons rally in the 4th quarter, as he poured in ten of his team high 26 points in the quarter. However, the Braves did just enough to hold the Lyons off down the stretch and pick up the six point win.

In addition to Board’s 26 points, the Lyons got 11 points from Max Wadlington. Union County was led by Logan Thomas with 27 points and Elex Dunford with 22.

The loss drops Lyon County to 1-6 on the season, with Union County improving to 4-2.
