Lady Tigers Get Past UHA For 4th Win in a Row (w/PHOTOS)

The Caldwell County Lady Tigers fought off a late charge from University Heights Friday night to pick up their 4th win in a row. After leading by as many as nine points in the 4th quarter, the Lady Tigers held on for a 55-52 win that was not sealed until Anshanique Leavell’s 3-pointer in the final seconds was partially blocked to send it off line.

The game was a tight battle throughout the first quarter. The score was tied five times before UHA inched out to a 13-12 lead at the end of the quarter.

Caldwell County opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 21-13 lead, a lead that they would not relinquish for the rest of the game. UHA battled back to tie the game at 21-21. The Lady Tigers then outscored UHA 4-1 to take a 25-22 lead at the half.

In the second half, the Lady Tigers opened the 3rd quarter outscoring the Lady Blazers 10-3 to take a 35-25 lead. UHA rallied again, cutting the lead to 5, at 37-32 at the end of the period.

Caldwell County looked like they were about to finally put the game away, as they moved the lead out to 49-40 halfway through the final quarter. But once again, the Lady Blazers did not go quietly. With help from Caldwell County missed free throws, UHA rallied to within 3 with 14 seconds left in the game. The Lady Tigers missed two free throws, with the Lady Blazers taking the rebound and hurrying downcourt. However, Leavell’s pressured three point shot was partially blocked ending the game with a scrum for the rebound.

Jada Boyd led the way for Caldwell County with 18 points. Jacey Jaggers chipped in with 12.

For UHA, it was a big night for Anshanique Leavell, who led all scorers with 26 points. Lily Hendricks added 18 for the Lady Blazers.

Caldwell County improved to 4-2 with the win, while the Lady Blazers fell to 2-4.
