Al Starnes, who stepped down as Crittenden County football coach after 27 years, was recognized Wednesday at the Western Kentucky Conference football banquet at Marshall County High School.
Starnes received the Joe Russell Distinguished Leadership Award, given by WKC officials to the head coach who most exemplifies the three fundamental components of the National Federation — Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity and instill the attitudes in their staff and players.
The award was initiated in 1997 and is named in memory of the long-time Assigning Secretary for the WKC, Joe Russell.
Starnes also received the J.O. Lewis Sportsmanship Award.
Starnes had a career coaching record of 175-138 at Crittenden County, leading the Rockets to four district championships and one region championship.
