A trio of Murray State University commits spelled trouble for Hopkinsville as Murray scored 61 first half points on their way to an 85-65 win at Hoptown’s Tiger Gym Tuesday.

Alexis Burpo finished with a game-high 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field, while Lex Mayes and Macey Turley each scored 19 points for Murray. All three players have committed to play for their former high school coach Rechelle Turner at Murray State next year.

The trio helped Murray race out to a 32-18 lead after one quarter and then extend it to 61-38 by halftime. Murray led by 26 points after three quarters before emptying the bench.

London Foster knocked down five 3-pointers for Hopkinsville and finished with 17 points. Breon Oldham added 15 points, and Zakyra Stallworth (12 points/9 rebounds) and Jayla Rose (11 points/9 rebounds) each played well inside.

Hoptown hit 50-percent inside the arc (17-of-34) but just 9-of-26 (35%) behind the arc.

Hopkinsville (1-1) returns to action Friday at winless Fort Campbell.
