McLean County used a strong second quarter and a strong third quarter to upend Lyon County 74-62 Friday night in Eddyville. The Cougars, who led only 13-12 at the end of the first quarter, outscored the Lyons 23-11 in the second quarter to extend their lead to 36-23 in the half.
McLean County kept the pressure on in the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Lyons 22-13 to push the lead on out to 22 points at 58 to 36. Lyon County tried to battle back in the 4th quarter, outscoring the Cougars 26-16, but it was not enough to overcome the 22 point deficit.
Max Waddlington had a big night to pace Lyon County with 23 points. Gabe Board was the only other Lyon in double figures with 13.
McLean County was led by Logan Patterson, who had 23 points. Keenan Smith added 22 for the Cougars, who improved to 1-1 on the season.
Lyon County dropped to 0-2, and will head on the road for a 5th District matchup against Livingston Central Tuesday night.
