Christian County let their pressure defense do the heavy lifting for them while their offense was struggling Thursday. The result was 22 steals off 30 Hopkins County Central turnovers in a 54-13 win over the Lady Storm at Lyle Dunbar Gymnasium.
The 14 points allowed was the fewest since Christian County beat UHA 67-13 in December 2004.
The Lady Colonels would need the defensive effort on a night where Coach Kiki Radford was not pleased with the number missed shots in the paint.
Christian County jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back, leading 23-5 after one quarter and 34-10 at halftime. The Lady Colonels continued building the lead which led to a running clock midway through the third quarter.
Trinitee Jackson had 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Colonels, while Laderia Gold and Aaliyah Hampton each scored 10 points. Both Gold and Hampton were recognized before the game for scoring their 1,000th career point late last season. The team also honored Gold, whose father Gregory Gold died earlier this month, and dedicated the season to him.
Lydashe Bell knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to finish with six points as nine Lady Colonels scored.
Hopkins County Central (1-1) got five points from Samaya Stafford.
Christian County is off to their first 2-0 start in a decade and will travel to Caldwell County Friday.
