The Lyon County Lady Lyons rallied from two Caldwell County runs and then held the Lady Tigers to only 2 4th quarter points on their way to a 40-37 win in the opening game for both teams at Caldwell County High School. Caldwell County had an 11-0 run at the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second quarter to take a 18-10 lead with around four minutes to go in the first half.
The Lady Lyons came roaring back to tie the game at the half 20-20. After scoring the final basket of the 2nd quarter, Caldwell County scored the first seven points in the 3rd quarter to push the lead out to 27-20. Lyon County again came back, this time tying the game at 29-29, before Caldwell County edged back out to a 35-29 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter.
The Lady Lyons cut the lead to 35-32 with less than five minutes to go in the game. Caldwell County got basket to make the margin 37-32. The problem for the Lady Tigers was that those would be the last points they would score.
From that point, Lyon County took advantage of Caldwell County foul problems, as the Lady Tigers had three players foul out, and the Lady Lyons made their free throws down the stretch to hold on for the win.
Lyon County was led by Hannah Holloman with 13 points, and Allison Murphy with 11. Peyton Young let Caldwell County with 10, while Jada Boyd added 7.
The Lady Lyons return to action Friday when they go on the road to Dawson Springs. Caldwell County will be back on the court Friday night when they host Christian County.
