
The Caldwell County Tigers used a 12-2 run at the end of the 3rd quarter and the beginning of the 4th quarter to break open a close game and pull away to a 64-50 win over Lyon County Tuesday night at Caldwell County High School. The Tigers ended the 3rd quarter on an 8-2 spurt, and then scored the first four points of the 4th quarter.
The game was a battle for much of the first three quarters, with Lyon County scoring the last five points of the 1st quarter to take an 11-9 lead. Trailing 15-13, Caldwell County used a 7-0 run to take a 20-15 lead. The Tigers would hold the Lyons at bay for the remainder of the half, taking a 24-21 lead into the locker room.
Lyon County opened the second half scoring the first six points. However, Cayden Fraliex scored the next five points to put the Tigers back into the lead, a lead which Lyon County would not be able to pry from the Tigers’ hands for the rest of the game.
Caldwell County was led by Derrin Boyd with 17 points. Cayden Fraliex added 15, while Jameer Riley and Seth Scott added 8 points each. For Lyon County, Max Waddlington led the way with 20 points, all coming after the first quarter, when he suffered a cut to the chin going for a loose ball. Gabe Board was the only other Lyon in double figures with 11 points.
Caldwell County returns to action Friday, when they go on the road to take on Hopkinsville. Lyon County will look for their first win Friday night when they host McLean County.
