Last Friday night, Franklin-Simpson had to rally from 20 points down to end the season for the Hopkinsville Tigers. This week, they had to rally in the final minutes to beat Collins 42-38 and advance to the Class 4A title game at Kroger Field.
The Wildcats got a 6-yard touchdown run with less than 3 minutes to go in the game to clinch the win. Collins had just taken the lead 16 seconds earlier at 38-35, but Franklin-Simpson returned the ensuing kickoff to the Collins’ 6-yard line setting up the winning score.
Franklin-Simpson, which has won 9 games in a row, improved to 11-3 on the season. The Wildcats defeated Hopkinsville 35-20 in last week’s regional final, scoring the final 35 points of the game.
Franklin-Simpson will face Johnson Central next Saturday in the Class 4A title game. The two teams met in the championship last year, with Johnson Central winning 48-0.
