Head Coach Kerry Stovall returns to the sidelines on the court that bears his name, taking over for his second stint as Christian County boys’ basketball coach after Frankie Smith left to take the job at Bell County after two seasons with the Colonels.  Stovall previously coached the Colonels for nine seasons, culminating in a state championship in the 2010/2011 season.

The Colonels posted a 26-7 record last season, losing to Hopkinsville in the 8th District and 2nd Region championship games.  They graduated five seniors, including second-leading scorer and rebounder Jaylen Sebree and third-leading scorer T’Aiveyhon Mason.  However, Coach Stovall welcomes back leading scorer and rebounder, senior Detorrion Ware (20.6 points, 7.4 rebounds) and fourth-leading scorer and third-leading rebounder, senior Cory Trice (11.4, 5.5).  Stovall also expects increased contribution from junior forward Fred Tandy, junior guard DT Babb, junior guard Nate McGregor, sophomore guard Mikeon Mathis, and junior forward Eric Brody.

While Coach Stovall doesn’t feel his team will be at their best early in the season, he hopes, “to be the best basketball team we can be when the games matter the most.”  Ultimately, he and the team want to be a part of the Sweet Sixteen, and he feels, “anything less than that is a failure on my part and what is expected from our team.”

The Colonels kick off the new season at Paducah Tilghman on November 28.
