Christian County started slow but scored four touchdowns in the third quarter on their way to a 54-6 win over Barren County Friday in the first round of the Class 5A football playoffs at the Stadium of Champions. The win was Christian County’s eighth straight over Barren County in the postseason in the last nine years.

Freshman Donte Abren got the start at quarterback for the Colonels in the place of Kolbe Langhi who sat out due to an injury. Abren responded with 130 yards passing and two scores – both to JaQuon Long for 41 and 46 yards.

The offensive pace was set by junior Jadonavin McNeal, who rushed for 171 yards and three touchdowns on the night. McNeal scored Christian County’s first three touchdowns on runs of 19, 68, and 5 yards.

The Colonels also scored two defensive touchdowns on a 67-yard fumble recovery by Shamar Foster and an Artravious Gaither 40-yard pick-six. Both scores came in the third quarter.

Barren County’s season ends at 1-10, while Christian County improves to 11-0. The Colonels will host South Warren (9-2) next week at the Stadium of Champions. The Spartans beat Graves County 38-12 in Bowling Green Friday.
