The Trigg County boys’ soccer team capped off a dismal 2017 season with a 10-0 mercy rule loss to Henderson County in the first round of the 2nd Region Tournament. The Wildcats lost their last 9 games to slump to a 6-15 record, their first losing season since 2007.  The mercy rule loss to Henderson was the program’s first since 2005.  A difficult season only got worse when starting center defenders senior Carter Boyd and junior Derek Frazier were lost for the season through injury.  The Wildcats were beaten by Lyon County 4-3 in the 5th District championship game, the first time in 7 years the Wildcats failed to win the title.

Four seniors graduate, hitting the Wildcats’ back line the hardest.  Starting defenders Carter Boyd, Jacob Kesty, and Max Sauermann will need to be replaced along with starting midfielder Javier Llarena.

The Wildcats look as if they’ll still be in rebuilding mode in 2018, with a few talented freshmen coming in to bolster the squad.  The first priority will be posting a winning record, with the Wildcats no doubt hungry to recapture the 5th District championship.
