The Todd County Central football team has assured itself of its first winning season since 1995, heading into the playoffs with a 6-4 record. The Rebels travel to Mayfield to face the 9-1 Cardinals this Friday in the first round of the Class 2A Russell Athletic/ KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl. Todd County’s last playoff win came in 1996, when they topped Murray and Crittenden before losing to Mayfield in the regional championship. The Rebels are 0-7 all time vs. Mayfield in the playoffs.
Todd County will be trying to end their playoff drought while being shorthanded. Only 17 players will travel to Mayfield, with injuries and some players no longer with the team taking a toll, with G/DT Dalton Ellis the latest Rebel to fall victim to the injury bug.
Todd County and Mayfield will face off at War Memorial Stadium on Friday with the winner hosting the winner of Hancock County (6-4) and Ballard Memorial (3-7).
