Piper Hancock (left) and Muki Kunnmann both qualified for the state cross country meet, with Kunnmann winning the region title for a third straight year.

Freshman Tomas Duncan won the Region I Cross Country Meet Saturday.

While the University Heights Academy cross country team only brought 3 runners to the 1A 1st Region Meet, junior Muki Kunnmann, 8th grader Piper Hancock, and freshman Tomas Duncan will all be moving on to the State Meet in Lexington next weekend.

Kunnmann came in 1st in the girls’ race with a time of 20:56.00, while Hancock finished just behind her in 6th with a 22:55.90.  Duncan matched Kunnmann when he won the boys’ race with a 17:01.65, coming from behind late to run down last year’s champion, Nick Coffey of Hickman County.
